We are looking for a Food Editor who will own all editorial aspects of
LIVESTRONG.com’s food vertical
and improve and build upon its vast inventory of high-quality content. This position requires strong editing and organizational skills as well as a thorough knowledge of SEO best practices and ability to communicate well with freelance writers. The Food Editor is in charge of both new content creation as well as existing content renovation to strengthen the vertical’s overall search authority in the food and nutrition space.
You’ll Report To: Managing Editor
Responsibilities:
Editing and publishing 2-5 stories daily
Brainstorming and pitching SEO stories within a defined keyword universe
Assigning stories to both full-time staff and freelance writers, and ensuring stories are produced and published in a timely manner and to standard
Recruiting talented freelance writers and experts in the food and nutrition space
Planning the weekly schedule for the food section and ensuring a balance between new and renovated content production
Working with the Audience Development Manager to develop and hone strategies for the vertical in order to achieve monthly traffic goals through other channels
Keeping your finger on the pulse of food and nutrition news in order to stay abreast of promising new trends
You’ll be successful in this role if you are passionate about creating high-quality service content that helps readers at all stages of their health and wellness journeys. The Food Editor is responsible for assigning and top-editing all stories within the food vertical. Well-versed in all things food and nutrition, you know exactly what a reader is looking for when she Googles “ways to eat more protein even with busy schedule” and how to present that information in an easy-to-read, authoritative way that gives the reader everything she needs to know to move forward. While this is primarily an editing role, you will be expected to write stories when needed, as well.
What You Have:
5-8 years editorial experience
Superior SEO knowledge and experience with content cleanup
A large rolodex of freelance and expert writers who specialize in food and nutrition coverage
A passion for everything healthy eating, from the latest trends to the need-to-know basics
Experience using Google Analytics or similar tools to extract actionable insights from data
Meticulous editing skills for grammar, voice, and flow
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Not afraid to wear multiple hats - no job being too small or too large.
