Editor Jobs

Editors have a very exciting, stimulating, and enjoyable career. These are people who enjoy observing human behaviour. Since editing is not a suitable career for those who cannot handle stress, applicants need to be the kind of person who can sit and watch others panic while they map out a plan and a solution to the problem or problems.

To be an excellent editor requires intelligence, instinct, good interpersonal and managerial skills, a deep knowledge of literature, art, history, world events, and the knowledge of how to make them interesting to the readers.

Daily newspaper and newscast editors are people who are able to be on their toes for most of the times and can recognise a newsworthy article instantly and use it effectively. Within 24 hours, the editor must be able to organise a front page or newscast that has everyone reaching for the paper or intent on listening to the radio or watching the television.

In large newspaper concerns, the job of an editor can become extremely hectic and requires a calm person who can think quickly and make big decisions instantly. For some editors the main daily task is to make order out of chaos.

Editors of weekly and bi-weekly newspapers, magazines, television, and radio shows have very similar but less hectic careers. These editors have more time to plan the layout and have more time for articles to be written, photographs to be taken and developed. Their deadlines are usually met on time.
