A writer position may be available with a media agency, publishing company, editorial department, online marketing firm or an ITES firm. A writer is responsible for writing articles to be published for company or clients’ products or websites. Typical duties of a writer include understanding client requirements, studying the area on which the matter has to be produced, writing drafts on the subject, editing an proofreading drafts, approving the work of assistant writers, meeting project deadlines, coordinating with various department members, and performing several other tasks as assigned by the writing manager. A writer typically reports to a writing manager.

A writer should have an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area. Excellent academic credentials and writing skills are necessary. Prior experience working as a writer may be advantageous. Strong proficiency with use of Microsoft Word is essential.
